Spirituality

from Adele's perspective

I understand that some people get a lot from organized religion. I'm not one of them.

Faith and spirituality and hope, well, now, that's different. They're vital to my life.

My two biggest issues with the problems created by organized religion can be summed up in the following two statements...

"Of course, my God is better than your God.
Worshippers of all others are heathens, and although maybe
other people should be treated like human beings,
they're still DIFFERENT FROM THE CHOSEN PEOPLE."

"Of course you need an intermediary
between yourself and the Higher Power.
You're not smart/worthy/pure enough to
communicate directly, so you need me
to make sure you do everything just perfectly."

Now, I'm not trying to put down anyone who finds comfort, solace, guidance, or whatever else good from organized religion. It does have its good points! All I'm saying is that all organized religions have the potential for abuses like the two statements above, and I'd rather not participate.

I have my own faith, my own sources of hope and guidance. I encourage everyone to find such things for themselves!

I find that celebrating the passage of time is important to me. Marking the passage of holidays and the turning of the seasons helps me cope.

Wild open spaces are my homes, my temples.
